House of Europe: up to EUR 4,000 for a personal project

House of Europe offers Individual Project Grants for personal projects featuring the European Union or the United Kingdom. The grant runs from EUR 1,000 to EUR 4,000, the European Union funds the programme and the Goethe-Institut implements it. Calls open in waves, and the programme publishes the date of each intake in its opportunities catalogue.

Ukraine’s position here is simple: the programme exists for Ukrainian professionals, and they apply in their own name, with no applicant organisation behind them. The guidelines for each wave set the specific requirements on citizenship and place of residence.

The defining feature is that the grant serves a personal project, one not directly tied to your main place of work.

What the grant funds

A project means any initiative that builds your professional growth: launching a podcast or a Telegram channel, creating an online course, holding a networking event, attending a conference or a fee-based internship, or joining a workshop with a European expert.

The grant covers external services, including participation in events and online courses, professional consultations and mentoring. It also covers marketing costs for design, copywriting, video and photo production, administration costs such as rent of space and equipment, digital tools and software, plus remuneration for experts and facilitators.

A practical note. Renting equipment passes as an administration cost, while buying equipment is excluded. One word in the budget decides the fate of that line, so write “rent” and state the period.

Who can apply

The grant is open to professionals in culture and creative industries, education and youth work, social entrepreneurship and media. For each sector the programme specifies the target groups that need support most.

The programme states directly that your job title carries no weight. A thought-out idea and strong motivation decide the outcome, so a teacher at a rural school and a university professor in a busy city have equal chances of receiving a grant.

Conditions and requirements

A project needs an international dimension featuring the EU or the UK. For a workshop, find a fitting offer on a European educational platform; for a blog, plan interviews with EU professionals; for presenting ideas, consider enrolling in a European conference.

The programme does not cover costs absent from the budget, costs incurred before the project starts, ongoing organisational costs such as office rent and salaries, or the purchase of equipment and renovation. For hardware, House of Europe runs a separate Infrastructure Grants line.
