France Excellence Eiffel 2027: €1,200 a month for a master’s in France and €2,100 for a PhD, candidates nominated by French universities by 6 January
The French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, through Campus France, has opened the 2027 campaign of the France Excellence Eiffel scholarship programme. The award supports international students intending to complete a master’s or PhD degree at a French higher education institution.
The award provides a monthly living stipend of €1,200 for master’s students and €2,100 for doctoral researchers. In addition to the monthly allowance, recipients receive international and domestic travel, health insurance, housing search support, and access to cultural activities.
Candidates cannot apply directly to Campus France. French higher education institutions evaluate prospective students and submit nominations for selected candidates before the final deadline of 6 January 2027.
What is funded
The France Excellence Eiffel programme provides monthly allowances designed to offset living costs during study in France. Successful master’s level candidates receive €1,200 per month, while doctoral candidates receive €2,100 per month.
The grant package also covers international travel to and from France, domestic travel expenses within the country, and health insurance. Beneficiaries receive administrative help with finding housing and access to a curated cultural programme.
Tuition fees are not covered by the France Excellence Eiffel scholarship. Selected candidates or their hosting establishments must address any university registration or tuition charges independently.
Who can apply
The opportunity is open to individual international students pursuing eligible degree courses in France. Eligible academic levels are restricted to master’s programmes and doctoral studies.
Support is limited to specific priority academic disciplines. These fields include biology and health, ecological transition, mathematics and digital technology, engineering sciences, history, French language and civilisation, and law and political science.
Applicants cannot submit individual dossiers directly to the funding agency. Participation is strictly open to candidates who have been nominated and put forward by an accredited French higher education institution.
Conditions and requirements
Applicants must meet the academic entry criteria of the French higher education institution delivering the chosen degree. The university evaluates the applicant’s profile and determines whether to submit an official nomination to Campus France.
Because the award excludes tuition fees, prospective students must verify how academic fees are handled at their selected university. Candidates must also ensure their field of study aligns exactly with the disciplines approved under the Eiffel framework.
Selected fellows are supported through Campus France services upon arrival in France. Beneficiaries must comply with French visa, residence, and administrative procedures applicable to foreign students and researchers.
How to apply
Prospective candidates must initiate the process by reaching out directly to the French university or grand établissement that offers their degree. The applicant must submit their academic portfolio to the institution for preliminary review.
If the institution approves the candidate, it prepares and files the official nomination file with Campus France. French institutions must complete and submit these institutional dossiers by 6 January 2027.
Practical tip. French universities set their own internal closing dates to review and select candidates before the Campus France portal closes. Inquire with your chosen university’s international relations or doctoral office well ahead of 6 January 2027 to ensure your application meets their institutional deadlines.
Applications are submitted on the donor’s page: campusfrance.org.
