Erasmus Mundus GLOCAL master’s at seven universities in Europe, Asia and Latin America: free tuition and €1,400 a month, scholarship applications by 14 January

The Erasmus Mundus International Master in Global Markets, Local Creativities (GLOCAL) has announced a scholarship call for its two-year joint master’s programme. The programme is co-funded by the European Union through Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters and offered by an international consortium of seven universities led by the University of Glasgow, with partner institutions including Uppsala University, Georg-August-Universität Göttingen, Erasmus University Rotterdam, Universitat de Barcelona, Kyoto University, and Universidad de los Andes.

The award provides comprehensive financial backing comprising 100% tuition coverage, mandatory health insurance, and monthly living allowances over the full two-year course of study. Selected recipients can receive either 1,400 euros per month or an adjusted stipend of 1,275 euros per month combined with 3,000 euros in advance installments for installation and travel expenses.

Candidates seeking scholarship consideration must submit complete applications alongside all supporting documents by 14 January 2027 at 13:00 UK time. Results of the evaluation and ranking process are scheduled to be published in April 2027.

What is funded

The Erasmus Mundus scholarship covers all academic tuition costs, including programme deposits, through contributions from both the Erasmus Mundus grant and the GLOCAL consortium. Recipients incur no personal tuition liability during their studies. Full insurance coverage is also provided for the entire duration of the two-year, 120 ECTS credit curriculum.

Scholars have access to two alternative payment structures to suit their financial needs. Option One awards three advance installments of 1,000 euros across key transition points, specifically in August before semester one, May at the end of year one, and September at the start of year two, yielding a revised monthly allowance of 1,275 euros. Option Two pays a flat rate of 1,400 euros per month across the 24 months without initial travel or installation advances.

Who can apply

The call is open to individual applicants worldwide holding an eligible academic background. Candidates can be citizens of any nation, subject to geographical balance rules ensuring that no single nationality receives more than 10% (up to 6 awards) of the 60 regular scholarships distributed across four editions of the project.

Up to 20 additional scholarships are designated across the four editions for candidates from targeted world regions (Regions 1, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11) financed via EU external action instruments. Candidates who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master (EMJM) scholarship are strictly ineligible.

Conditions and requirements

Applicants must secure a conditional or unconditional admission offer from the University of Glasgow prior to or by the scholarship cut-off. Candidates whose file status remains marked as ‘holding for documents’ at the specified deadline will not be considered during scholarship reviews.

Selected candidates will complete their 120 ECTS coursework by studying across at least three partner universities within the consortium in Europe, Asia, or Latin America, culminating in a joint or multiple degree. Successful awardees must choose their disbursement schedule via pre-arrival documentation once an award offer has been accepted.

Practical tip. Ensure all official academic transcripts, references, and language certificates are verified and submitted well before 14 January 2027. Because applications left ‘holding for documents’ are automatically disqualified from scholarship ranking, resolving outstanding admission conditions early is essential.

Selection process and how to apply

Applications must be filed electronically via the University of Glasgow application portal before the deadline of 14 January 2027 at 13:00 UK time. Applicants must complete both the academic admission process and the corresponding GLOCAL scholarship application form.

Submissions are evaluated and ranked by the consortium’s degree-awarding partners using four weighted criteria: the personal statement accounts for 40%, academic merit accounts for 30%, relevant experience and research account for 20%, and the quality of references represents 10%. Top-scoring applicants will receive offers, while remaining qualified candidates will be placed on a reserve list to fill potential withdrawals before results are released in April 2027.

Applications are submitted on the donor’s page: globallocal-erasmusmundus.eu.
