CERV European Remembrance 2026: EUR 28 million for remembrance projects on democratic transitions, the Holocaust and victims of totalitarian regimes, deadline 24 February 2027
The European Commission has published the European Remembrance 2026 call under the Citizens, Equality, Rights and Values (CERV) programme. The call, referenced as CERV-2026-CITIZENS-REM, is dedicated to supporting memory and remembrance projects across the European Union.
A total call budget of EUR 28,000,000 is allocated to this funding round. Project applications must be submitted by the deadline of 24 February 2027.
What is funded
The call is organized around five main thematic topics. These include remembering democratic transitions and the rebuilding of democratic institutions, remembrance of the Holocaust, remembrance of Roma victims, remembrance of LGBTIQ+ and other victims, and the legacy of colonialism, slavery and migration.
Projects must link historical reflection with contemporary challenges to democracy, the rule of law, and fundamental rights. Financing is provided as lump sums allocated per lot across the eligible topics.
Who can apply
The call is open to a range of legal entities operating in the European Union. Eligible applicants include non-governmental organizations (NGOs), higher education institutions (HEIs), and municipal or community bodies.
Government structures, central authorities, and cultural institutions are also eligible to participate. Projects are expected to bring together organizations working with history, civic engagement, and education.
Conditions and requirements
Proposals must align with one of the defined call topics and adhere to the lump-sum funding model specified per lot. Activities must examine past regimes or historical events while addressing their implications for European fundamental rights.
Practical tip. Align your proposal clearly with one of the five specific topics and demonstrate an explicit link between historical remembrance and modern-day protection of democratic institutions and the rule of law.
